the slipper 7 (11th - 13th August 2006)
The
rally was at Hollowell Steam Rally Field again this year. We are friendly
with the commitee now so hopefully we will be able to use this site for
the forseeable future. We had a good run on prebook tickets before the
event so it was decided that we would get a bigger marquee for this year.
We have used our own up till now which was two smaller marquees pitched
up together but we have outgrown them now.
When
we arrived on the Thursday evening to set up, the marquee was already
pitched. The good thing about hiring a marquee is the company put it up
and take it down, it used to take us hours with our own. The stage arrived
soon afterwards so apart from Pete our Chairmen wiring it all we were
pretty much set. We had to put up our bar and control tents and we were
ready to go.
On
Friday people started turning up early afternoon and getting their tents
pitched. The trade stalls and food van had turned up as well and were
well on there way to getting their stalls set up. There was a bit of a
heatwave in the month leading up to the event so we were confident that
we would have good weather as well. It was a bit overcast all weekend
and we had a few odd showers in the evening and overnight but it was very
windy all weekend. We lost our control tent due to the wind so we threw
it on the skip.
Most
of the pre-book people came on Friday and a lot off pay on the gate people
turned up as well breaking our record of people on Friday. There was a
rock disco on the Friday night, we have had live music on the Friday in
the past but the feedback we received told us that people just wanted
to chill out after a week at work. So the live music was scrapped on Friday
a couple of years ago and this seemed better.
Saturday
came and as people recovered and started to appear there was a ride out
planned, which was a ride through the lanes of Northants. By the time
the ride out came back and all the stragglers were back on site the silly
games were being organised. After Blocks, Throwing, Eating, Drinking,
and Dizzy Sticks there was a Sumo arena set up for all the brave souls
who wanted to beat the shit out of each other. We were charging £2
a go with all the profits going to charity, we also did a raffle with
all the money going to the same charity which was BREAKTHROUGH BREAST
CANCER. Carol our rally rep is walking 60km over a weekend in September,
thats 40 miles. See the link on the home page for more details.
Saturday
night came and we started off with a rock disco followed by live music
by 90% PROOF. During a break in the band the raffle was drawn and the
trophies were handed out for the silly games, club turnout and furthest
travelled. The awards for the custom show were given out as well. Earlier
in the day we took a wander round the camp site and had a look at the
bikes.
Sunday
came and everybody packed up and went home. Everybody we spoke to seemed
too have a good time over the weekend.
